Contrary to what people usually believe, anyone could learn a foreign language, exactly as anyone could learn to cycle. Everyone has just learnt its own language. Through the Callan Method the student never fails. If not, Schools using the Callan Method could not guarantee to stand Cambridge examinations by a written guarantee. Among students the only difference is that some of them learn English faster. How the method Callan works. The Callan Method was invented to make students as involved as possible in the learning process, and at the same time to help them to make the best possible use of their time. The Method is a rigorously structured program of instruction, divided into twelve stages. The teacher asks students a series of questions which the students must answer. Because the Method aims to get students to speak, classes hold the attention of students and stimulate their memory. The structure of the Method ensures that students increase their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary step by step. Students are never distracted by rare or complicated vocabulary, and have to concentrate on picking up the basics of the English language. By other teaching methods, the student listens up to fifteen seconds per minute, for example per 25% of the whole lesson, the rest of the time he doesn’t concentrate, he continually looks at the watch, looks out the window or thinks about what doing in the evening. By the Callan Method the student has to listen per fifteen seconds each minute (four times as much) because the class is bombarded by questions posted by the teacher and the student doesn’t know his turn. Why the Method Callan is effectiveThe Method Callan is like a piece of precision engineering, an intricate design which is simple to use. The key factors behind the success of the Method are its calculated and systematic approach to the teaching of language, and its determination to maximize student involvement. Students learn best by speaking and listening. The pace of classes immerses students in the language. Repetition engages the memory, while frequent revision of the ground already covered encourages accuracy. These factors allow students to learn English in a quarter of the time and make the Callan Method the best in its genre. A language has usually four main skills – reading, writing, speaking and understanding – the most difficult is speaking. As many tests have confirmed, the Callan Method not only obliges students to listen but also makes them speak because teachers continually ask them questions. In this manner students overcome embarass and speaking difficulties in order to gain confidence in conversations outside the class. Why the Method is enjoyableWhat makes the Callan Method enjoyable for the student is its highly structured and detailed character. In the Method, everything comes in its proper place, which means that students do not waste time being in a higher level class, finding complexities for which they are not yet ready. The questions blast doesn’t allow students to become bored because it is impossible to know when the turn comes up to you. In classical methods, the teacher writes down on the blackboard and students take down notes in silence. In this manner it is more difficult to stay concentrated and it is easier to become bored. The Callan Method takes advantage of both the time dedicated to speaking skills and the students attention ensuring that from the first lesson where the Callan teacher speaks using 200-240 words per minute whereas a normal conversation implies 150-180 words per minute. Classical methods teachers speak using 100-120 words per minute. The greater speed creates a lively atmosphere, engages the student who doesn’t translate in his mind, listens to a lot of words, understands better the English language outside the school and allows him to speak faster. How to defeat short memory?Learning has two greater enemies: boredom and short memory. The Callan Method overtakes the board through the speed and the review. Brushing up everything four or five times not only ensure the speaking and learning speed, but also it allows the student remember what he has learned, it doesn’t matter as much short his memory is. The Callan Method is focused on grammar basics teaching and on more used words. Accomplished the 12 levels the student will have 5621 common words of the English language. At this point the student is ready to accomplish the Cambridge First Certificate. The reached level is necessary to live in any English speaking country , to work with native English speakers and to read in English. As you have noticed the Callan Method is right for any aims. Moreover, the Callan method has no age limit. Why dictations are useful? Some students don’t like to write dictations. Dictations are, however, necessary because they help students in spelling errors and in improving the pronunciation. The student doesn’t have to worry about lots of errors in dictations because he will automatically improve while away the time. Reached the third book, he will surely do less error. Dictations are composed of phrases not linked. In this manner it is possible to insert the most number of words recently learnt. |
